In this first part, Fergal is entrusted with the task of rescuing his father and other Bogdoddies, held captive by the wicked Cluricauns. In order to succeed, he must collect four crystals, which together will provide protection and power against his foes. During the course of his initial travels, Fergal meets his new friend, Dan, encounters the enigmatic laughing trout, (who enjoy being tickled) and has several mini-adventures, which culminate in the dramatic climax of his rescue attempt, in the tunnels beneath the bog. Illustrated with ten full-color pictures and a three dimensional map, showing the route of Fergal’s quest, the book will appeal to children between the ages of six and ten years.
The story has a warm and engaging appeal, which manages to highlight family values and keeps violence to an absolute minimum, whilst introducing humorous moments to lighten the tale.
